We invite you to become part of something special -- a journalism tradition in Denver that stretches back to 1867. That's how long journalists have gathered at the Denver Press Club -- to socialize, gossip, swap ideas and stories.

We’re happy to tell you that the club has been thriving the past few years -– booking more events than ever, possessing a bank balance that ranges from the high five figures to low six figures, a diligent board of directors and staff watching every penny going in and out, and building its membership to more than 430 people (including active and retired media, and professionals from many fields, including public relations, marketing, advertising, online ventures, health care, education, government, law, lobbyists, student journalists, and others). Anyone who shares an interest in communications, literacy, current affairs or the First Amendment is welcome.

We’re serving a buffet dinner Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights. Or stop by for drinks with friends at the bar. Come to our events, which are among the most stimulating in the Denver metro area. Take a look at the replicas of all the Pulitzer Prizes won by The Denver Post and Rocky Mountain News. Play a game of pool in the lower level.

The DPC is one of the most distinctive private clubs in America. For more than a century, it's played host to poets and presidents, writers and visiting journalists. Ginger Rogers learned to play poker here. Carl Sandburg stopped in for dinner. Damon Runyon drank here. Woodrow Wilson paid a call.

The club hosts book signings that feature both local and national authors of renown, newsmaker luncheons, and talks by local editors and reporters. We encourage the best of student journalism with annual scholarships that total $7,000. Members enjoy reciprocal privileges at 22 other press clubs across the nation.

I returned as manager of the Denver Press Club in February 2007. We’ve been able to accomplish many things since then.

The club is now a premier venue for such events as weddings, reunions, business meetings or networking at a very reasonable room rate, with in-house catering and full bar service. The club can accommodate up to 230 people using the whole building. Or, it can be separated on different floors for smaller groups. The service staff consists of very friendly, alert and accommodating professional people with years of experience in this business.

To say the least, returning to the club has been a very gratifying experience. With what we have managed to accomplish in a short time, I believe that the Denver Press Club is now on the right business track and will continue to be a part of Denver's history for a very long time.
